Wind farm rig Excalibur

The jack-up rig Excalibur which is used to establish the best locations for wind turbines has taken shelter in Douglas Bay and is waiting for a weather window so it can continue its work on the Walney Wind Farm. The barge takes core samples of the seabed to establish the best location for the turbines and will be working in the area for the winter and will use the bay for shelter as and when required.
Excalibur is owned by Seacore of Helson.
It is the firm's largest jack-up platform, with a gross displacement of 4,000 tonnes and stands 47m above the sea
