Wet weather causes road closure

17th August, 2012

Following almost 48 hours of continuous rain a landslide on the Snaefell Mountain Road has led to it being closed from the Ramsey Hairpin to Creg-ny-Baa. The road was closed on Friday 17th August at lunchtime and was hurriedly worked on to ensure that it re-opened in time for the Manx Grand Prix's first practice session on Saturday evening.

Adrian Cowin from the Ronaldsway Met Office said: ‘The overnight heavy rain caused some localised flooding on the Island this morning, but it also brought our rainfall total at Ronaldsway Airport for the summer period (June, July & August) to 334mm so far. This beats the previous record of 330mm from 1985, and there’s still more rain to come later today and at times through the rest of this month.
