Weather causes disruption to travel services

11th November, 2010

Severe gales in the Irish Sea caused the cancellation of Steam Packet sailings today, Thursday 11th November. Both round trip sailings had to be cancelled following the forecast of storm force 10 gales with sailing finally resumed with the departure of the 08.45 sailing to Heysham on Friday morning.

The rival Liverpool - Douglas service started my Mezeron again suffered delays, the vessel having already missed its Tuesday 9th Nov. morning arrival due to high winds and finally arriving in Douglas in the early evening of that day. Neither of their two container vessels sailed today, Thursday.

Note: It was not until Saturday that any freight arrived on the Mezeron service into Douglas, the Steam Packet vessel having completed two round trip sailings by then thus demonstrating the ability of the Ben My Chree to quickly catch up on any delay and resume normal service. This meant that all our loyal customers received their freight on time as usual once the weather had abated.
