Unprecedented weather conditions disrupt sailings again.

13th December, 2011

Having cleared most of the backlog of freight over the weekend the Isle of Man Steam Packet once again had to cancel the overnight sailing on Monday 12th December and have announced that there will be no sailings of the Ben My Chree to and from the Isle of Man today, Tuesday 13th December.

The forecast for Tuesday is for gales with gusts to storm force ten at times.

The remainder of the week is not looking promising either. The Packet plans to run the Manannan and the Ben my Chree for a couple of days together, before the fast craft takes over when the Ben my Chree is due to go into dry dock on Friday to have the bow thruster repaired. However the gales look set to continue with only a brief period of calmer weather midweek when one or two sailings may be possible.

The company says that despite considerable effort they have been unable to charter a freighter to provide cover and the only option open is to ship priority freight on the fastcraft Mannanan. Unfortunately this vessel only has a capacity for 8 trailers which will be strictly allocated to foodstuff and perishables.

Manx Independent Carriers remain committed to do our best for each and every customer and thank everyone for their patience and understanding of this difficult situation.
