St Georges win Railway cup for 3rd time in a row.

27th December, 2012

Our sponsored team St Georges, current Premier League Champions and Railway Cup Holders beat St John’s by 4-2 in the final on Boxing Day at the Bowl. This was Geordies eighth Railway Cup win with the team having won the last three finals in a row.

In desperately wet conditions,Geordies edged in front in the 26th minute as Ciaran McNulty drilled home from the penalty spot following a foul against Frank Jones in the St John’s box.

Geordies then doubled their advantage nearing half-time when Calum Morrissey punched the ball home from Chris Bass Jr’s corner.

Ten minutes into the second half, St Johns gained their first goal only to see St Georges jump two ahead again as Chris Bass completely outflanked the Johnners defence with a brilliant 50-yard run and goal.

St Johns scored again from a free kick only to once again find their defence lacking as Frank Jones took advantage to seal the Geordies third successive Railway Cup in injury time with a neat finish after latching onto a long through ball to make it 4-2 as the whistle was blown.
