St Georges complete another treble win

20th May, 2013

Once again our sponsored team, St Georges, have impressed with their dominance in Manx Football by putting finalists, Union Mills to the sword with a stunning 9-0 victory in the IOMFA Hospital Cup at the Bowl on Sunday 19th May. This completes the treble by winning 3 out 4 major trophies available in Manx Football.

The win means Chris Bass Sr’s Glencrutchery Road outfit add the Hospital Cup to the Railway Cup and Premier League crowns they’ve already won this season.

After a fast paced start by Union Mills, Ciaran McNulty got Geordies on their way when he side-footed home in the 17th minute.

Man of the Match, James McStay added the second goal just before the half-hour followed by Chris Bass Jr making it 3-0 in the lead up to half-time.

The Union Mills spirit was broken in a devestating quarter-of-an-hour spell at the start of the second half.

Skipper Sean Quaye forced home from a corner to make 4-0, McNulty adding a fifth just two minutes later.

Wave after wave of St George’s attack continued to crash against the Mills’ defence and a sixth followed when Bass Jr finished neatly after good work by Calum Morrissey and McNulty.

McNulty completed his hat-trick in the 62nd minute with a deft header, Geordies’ eighth coming in the form of a crisp long-range shot from Jonny Myers.

With time running out, substitute Reece Thompson added a ninth as Geordies racked up the final’s biggest winning scoreline since Pulrose beat Corinithians 11-2 in 1956 which, with Geordies not having conceded a single goal is arguably the better performance and yet another record set by the Glencrutchery Road side.

In recent years, Geordies have won the Hospital Cup five times out of six since 2008 and are the most successful team in recent IOMFA history.
