St Georges achieve grand slam of Manx Football

21st May, 2012

ST GEORGE’S have achieved the distinction of being only the fourth club to win the Grand Slam of Manx football following a nail biting match at the Bowl on Sunday afternoon when they finally overcame Peel with a win in injury-time in the final of the BCS Hospital Cup.

Geordies had already won the Railway Cup, FA Cup and the Premier League and went into the contest as favourites to complete a memorable cleansweep.

Peel did their utmost to deny Geordies the victory and following some sprited playing were ahead by 2-1 as full time approached.

The match entered injury time of six minutes and shortly after, St Georges Johnny Myers somehow headed the through a crowded area to draw his side level.

With the scores tied at 2-2, the prospect of extra-time was looming when Geordies struck again, with seconds to go before the final whistle, Calum Morrissey latched onto a long ball and nodded past the Peel keeper to send St George’s into dreamland.
