SS Manxman to be broken up.

16th May, 2011

One of the last remaining traditional passenger vessels, TSS Manxman is to be sent to the breakers yard.

It's a sad end for the ship that completed its maiden voyage on the Douglas to Liverpool route in 1955.

The vessel was sold by the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company in 1982 following which it appeared in many different guises and was actually used on location in the film "Yentl" starring Barabara Streisand. The last use of the vessel was as a nighclub.

Despite many attempts and years of fruitless searches for a buyer or a project that would extend its life, the decision has been reached to dismantle the TSS Manxman.
