Record figures for Festival of Motorcycling
4th September, 2013
The recent Festival of Motorcycling brought a record-breaking number of bikes to the Isle of Man over the two-week period, according to official figures released by the IOM Steam Packet.
The revitalised festival held on the 90th anniversary of the Manx Grand Prix included the Classic TT, Festival of Jurby, Vintage parades and two trials events.
The Steam Packet carried 3,324 motorcycles, the highest number on record for this period and 15% up on last year.
The Steam Packet spokesman said it was thought that many machines may have been transported in vans, meaning the number of motorcycles actually carried is probably higher.
Total passenger numbers increased by 4% to 28,360 – the highest number for five years – and the number of cars and vans carried was also at a five-year high of 5,547, 4% on 2012.
