New Year starts of with more shipping cancellations.
2nd January, 2012
Sustained high winds have once again forced the cancellation of Steam Packet sailings from Douglas to Heysham this morning. The 14.15 afternoon return sailing from Heysham has also been cancelled.
The Ben-my-Chree was also delayed this morning due to the weather.
A Steam Packet spokesman said "As the Ben-my-Chree was approaching Douglas this morning, there was a sudden squall, gusting close to 60 knots. The Met Office advised that this squall was not expected, but was due to moderate soon. The Ships Master decided to wait for the wind to moderate to ensure the safety of passengers, crew and vessel. Passengers on board were updated regularly"
A decision on this evenings 7.45pm crossing to Heysham and the 02.15 return from Heysham will be made at 5pm.
