Jersey discusses Ferry Fares

9th January, 2009

Jersey Government has announced that it is looking into setting Channel Island Freight and Passenger ferry fares through an independent regulator rather than allowing Condor Ferries to set fares.

Condor Ferries is owned by Macquarie Bank, which also owns the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, and a report by consultants Oxera will be considered by the States when it's published next month. The loss of HD Ferries has sparked widespread concern that prices are likely to rise, with Condor once again enjoying a monopoly position on the southern route.
