Isle of Man Container service delayed again.

24th January, 2011

Pictured above, the Steam Packet Ro-Ro vessel, Ben-My-Chree in Douglas harbour.

The controversial Liverpool - Isle of Man, lift on-lift off, container service once again suffered delays over the weekend due to weather conditions. The Friday 21st arrival missed its 06.00 arrival slot and did not appear until mid morning with the Saturday 22nd sailing not reaching Douglas until 14.30 in the afternoon, too late for the goods on board to reach the supermarket shelves for that days sales. There were no arrivals of the container vessels on Sunday or Monday meaning all freight destined for the Island arrived on board the Isle of Man Steam Packet Roll-on Roll off vessel Ben My Chree which was unaffected by the weather and arrived early each morning on schedule as usual.

With winter barely part way through and more severe weather highly likely in the next few months, the prospects of timely arrival of the container vessels is poor to say the least. A poor service is no service!
