Island Football Squad in action this weekend

6th December, 2013

The island's football team jet off to the bright lights of Leeds on Friday evening for their second round FA Inter-League Cup tie with the Yorkshire Amateur League.

A comfortable 5-0 win over Cumberland in the cup's first round set up Saturday afternoon's encounter at West Riding FA's county ground, a game that comes almost two years to the day since the last time the two sides met at the Bowl.

On that occasion the Manx triumphed 4-3, battling back from two goals down at half-time to continue a run that ultimately would end in final defeat at the hands of Jersey.

Chris Bass Jr bagged the all-important 92nd winner on that day and the St George's winger is one of 10 from that match who make the 16 this weekend.

With the squad reporting a clean bill of health after two tasty Railway Cup semi-finals, manager Steve Burns has had the luxury of being able to recall several regulars that weren't able to make the Umbro Quadrangular trip in October. Goalkeeping duo Max Thomas (St Mary's) and Grant Dawson (St George's) return to the fold as do Ste Riding (Rushen) and in-form defender Karl Clark (St Mary's).
