Irish Sea Windfarm proposal
16th July, 2012
Centrica and a Danish energy company have proposed a joint venture which could see the UK's largest wind farm erected in the Irish Sea.
With up to 440 wind turbines the site could generate as much as 2.2 gigawatts. Currently, the largest British wind farm only has about 100 turbines.
The wind farm would be some 21 miles from the Isle of Man and 9 miles from Anglesey
Warnings have been made that such a large windfarm could disrupt ferry routes between England and Ireland and recently the the Isle of Man travel watchdog criticised the planned development claiming it would lead longer journey times and by implication increased fares.
