Guernsey's government wants 'legal' protection for ferry links

20th July, 2015

Guernsey's government is beefing up measures to ensure the island has a year-round freight ferry service.

It's emerged there currently are no legally enforceable rules to stop carriers such as Condor Ferries axing their roll-on-roll-off ferry link.

The Commerce And Employment, and Public Services departments are now proposing rules which would mean operators would have to sign up to a licence which promise agreed minimum standards.

Politicians will debate the proposals at the end of this month.
