Air freight suffers ongoing problems due to volcanic dust cloud

18th April, 2010

Businesses relying on "just-in-time" air freight across Europe are seeking to minimise the commercial damage from the flight ban across much of northern Europe by utilising road & sea transport following the eruption of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano last Wednesday

The electronic and pharmaceutical industries are among the worst-hit by the lack of air transport, and there are likely to be shortages of some perishable goods, including cut flowers and premium vegetables.

Holiday plans may be in ashes with thousands of confused passengers grounded at airports but, for many people living within earshot of an airport, the lack of air travel has meant a brief respite from the daily aircraft noise.
