A tribute to Roly Drower

12th October, 2009

An evening of Manx poetry, comedy and music took place at the Centenary Centre in Peel on Sunday 11th October to celebreate the life and achievments of our good friend Roly Drower who died last year.

Highlights included a moving poem by Roly's father, Denys and the launch of Roly’s posthumous book “Bramblespit and Other Poems & Stories”, excerpts of which were read with passion by Roy Macmillan. There were performances from Manx band, King Chiaullee and many of Rolys friends including Manx Radio’s ‘Headlines Again’ team who were reunited again for the occasion. The evening finished off with a show of pictures of Roly with his family and friends accompanied by his own music and his stories, of particular amusment to all was Roly's own rendition of his legendary tale, "The Stand-Off"

Proceeds will go to the Isle of Man Hyperbaric Chamber for which Roly wrote the facility’s original software.

Best known for his satirical website ‘Manxman.com’, Roly and his website came to wider public attention during a protracted series of court-cases.

The event was hosted by former Manx Radio presenter Roy McMillan.
