New Ferry Company for Isle of Man

6th June, 2013

Following the short lived Liverpool - Isle of Man container service recently operated by the Peter Dohle backed Mezeron, yet another ferry company is seeking to start a service between the IOM and UK.

Ellan Vannin Line hopes to exploit a loophole in the government’s link span agreement with the Steam Packet to introduce a new service to the Isle of Man. If agreement cannot be reached to use the existing linkspan facilities in Douglas Harbour then the only possibility is to install a third one which even if permission was given would involve massive civil engineering works at a cost running in to millions of pounds - hardly feasible for a company with no track record.

Ellan Vannin Line says it plans to transport passengers, bikes and freight between Douglas and Liverpool during next year’s TT festival.

The company also promises three cargo services a week between the Isle of Man and Merseyside throughout the rest of the year with its first freight services, according to the website, beginning in September.
